Verizon To Offer Starz Video Service
Verizon Communications has announced it will begin offering Starz Entertainment video subscription service to its subscribers. According to the companies, Tuesday’s announcement to add this additional service is an effort to expand Verizon’s current video offering on the Internet.
For only $5.99 per month, much less than Starz similar Vongo service, the new service will be available to Verizon’s roughly 8.5 million high speed Internet customers in hopes of promoting the online video market. So far, the mainstream has opted to watch movies on their televisions over online movie services provided by Vongo, Netflix and Amazon.com.
The companies hope to get the new service in front of younger consumers and travelers who primarily rely on laptops and mobile devices for accessibility, although Starz Play movies will not be compatible to view on the iPod.
Starz wholesale agreement with Verizon is the companies’ first of what it sees as the future of its Internet movies business. The company plans to continue offering its Vongo service which subscribers can watch archives and new release movies for a flat rate of $9.99 per month.
